3 Grotesque heads
These heads are in the tradition of drawings and doodles by Leonardo da Vinci’s and Francisco Meizi who had an intense interest in the purposeful exaggeration of the physiognomy of faces. The heads are made by tying cloth into knots and binding them together with wax to create an anatomy of features and facial deformities revealed through contrasting active arrangements of dark surfaces of wrinkles, depressions, and swellings that heighten the mental torments. The blackened heads are a distorted and monstrous expression of mental and emotional suffering. Their knot arrangements suggest growths, masses, and bandages. They appear to be victims of brutality and devastation sharing multiple personalities and the burden of individual and collective memory that heightens the mental distortion of the human and its counterparts beneath.
3 grotesque heads are in this sorted spirit of the gesture and urgency to capture old and new dissolute and abhorrent images of human perversities and misfortune.
