This image is a large scale woodblock print. Laboriously carved with hand tools, this woodblock is printed in the traditional Japanese water-based method; with Sumi ink on Japanese Sekishu paper. An additional woodblock was then printed on top of the Sumi image with white oil-based ink. This print was then backed with an additional sheet of Sekishu paper using a traditional Japanese scroll mounting technique which fuses the paper fibers together creating a single, completely archival, incredibly strong sheet of paper.
