«Reaching the Distance» investigates the motif and imageries of women’s portraiture through the artist’s personal palette of aesthetic referrals, from Dutch painting to digital decay. The ambiguities of photography as a medium to evoke presence are brought to attention by subtly enhancing unevenness within the photographs: deep and pixelated shades, fake colors, but also areas of extreme definition, working as real-feel devices. These slight counterpositions create a sweet short-circuit between a delusion of intimacy and a 2D phantomatic absence.
