Ionic Satellite Fountain

Ionic Satellite Fountain

Installazione, Politico/Sociale, Paesaggio, Materiali vari, 250x30x250cm
Ionic Satellite Fountain is a artwork that stablishes a sensorial and spectral connection to the satellites passing over the installation site. The liquid jets created by nozzles are made of salt water, a very conductive medium. The flow of these jets is controlled by a computer that predict the passes of satellites, positioning them with the best direction and angle for reception. The jets are connected to a radio so visitors can hear signals emitted from the satellites, with the streams serving as antennas.

Through the shape of the jets, the sound of water and radio monitoring, the fountain stablishes a connection betweem Earth and heavens, sensorial and invisible, men and space.

The project was made possible by the Vida 13.0 production grant awards, and was developed during residency at the Laboral Arts Center in Gijón, Spain. A smaller, more portable version is being developed now and can also be considered for exhibition in Brooklyn.
