Light Shadow and Form

Light Shadow and Form

Fotografia Analogica, Nudo, Analogica, 20.3x25.4cm
In this series, titled “Studies in light, shadow and form” I
update the “pictorialism” that we see in early 19th century photography when the struggle was to define photography as a true art form. In that early work, photographers sought to use the technology of photography to produce more realistic images while still maintaining the more ethereal look of a painting. In my modern update of this approach, I use models in “bodyscape” style poses but not only use the camera’s technology to capture realistic images but lighting control to create very specific shadows that emulate low-light, natural situations. The emphasis in the
photos in this series is not the beautiful women who participate but an impressionistic interpretation of the interplay between those lovely forms and the captured shadow and light.
