Read Between the Lines-Floor Piece
In the series Read Between the Lines, Lulu has shredded her meticulous collection of press
releases, which she had gathered, filed and preserved since her move to London in 2004. She
attended hundreds of shows and each time, as a token, collected the press release. This collection represented all the art that she had seen in numerous venues. Taking on the idea that all new art that is made is in fact a melting-pot of the things one has seen and been influenced by, she has re-used her entire collection of press releases as a medium to create something new. Using these as a material, she shredded and then re-assembled them, intertwining it all into a weave.In fact, Lulu is also making a point through the act of shredding, a form of destruction. Lulu believes, even though she carefully collects, that press releases are a way of conforming opinions and making art less
personal. For this project, Lulu has further enhanced this act of destruction by making a floor-based version of it. Each person is then invited to step on it, to emphasise this theme of rejection.
