When painting there is a necessity to consider the complexities of its affect within the wider social context. The facets of this are represented through the kinds of image I use and their subsequent transformation through the paints’ physicality. The economy of touch often conflicts with the apparent sternness of the image and its title. The title serves to evidence and further this conflict, averting its conclusivity. This affirms the cyclical nature of my practice as ideas appear and return under different disruptions. The motivation of my practice is an attempt to comprehend this logic by putting forward a position that is enactive, performative, spectative, analytical and suspect – a position that is then naturally mimicked and repeated by the viewer.
