Voyage
I choose to paint clouds because I am both charmed and captivated by them. I see clouds as a universal language, familiar to all life on Earth. They bring life and death, happiness and despondency. Who we are and where we are will determine how we relate to these intriguing, nebulous giants. I want to create work that reveals more about the viewer than the artist (for a change). Similar to the psychiatrist’s inkblot test, the curiously defined shapes within cumulus cloud formations often connect with our life experiences and so everything that defines who we are. From childhood we’ve all gazed at the sky and subconciously found triggers that led us into some form of self-discovery.
Quite apart from their sheer scale and beauty I'm also fascinated by the the weird science that shapes our sky. A scientific theory states that tiny forces acting on the universe can influence the path of nature. My other work 'Voyage Key' explores the ridiculous but theoretically possible idea that my insignificant trip to the bank may have shaped the sky and therefore my cloud painting as well!
