Aztec Sun Stone Mandala

Aztec Sun Stone Mandala

This painting is the first of a series of works inspired by the oriental concept of the "Mandala" applied to the various historical cultures of the past and present. Specifically, this artwork is a reinterpretation of the sculpture "Aztec Sun Stone" housed in the National Anthropology Museum in Mexico City.
It is a monument with a very complex and highly symbolic meaning, and a compendium of the cosmology and cosmogony of the Aztec people
I tried to add images and decorations as much as possible in line with the aesthetic canons of Aztec culture but following my personal taste.
Recognizable in the lower central part, the goddess Coatlicue, (goddess of fire and fertility and mother of the southern stars) inspired in her features by the wonderful sculpture inside the same museum
