Kde domov můj (Where is my home?)
This project comes from larger body of work spanning ten years during which I’ve been living as an expatriate in the Czech Republic.
The title of the project, Kde domov můj (Where is my home), is the national anthem of the Czech Republic, and was a natural fit for a series which initiallly served as a means of discovery and understanding before developing into a personal representation of my surroundings, with equal emphasis given to all subjects, and a deliberate exclusion of anything which may usually be considered as classically beautiful.
The purpose of the project is to convey that familiar sensation of connecting to something one could hardly describe, let alone give it a name. Fragments of places that reveal the secret world of mundane, ordinary objects that are perfectly unnoticed, or passed by, or noticed and immediately forgotten; mere snippets of what people perceive on their way from one place to another.
