I am a conceptual artist currently working with DIY electronic and networked systems that require user participation. These works are an experiential conceptual art piece that involves the use of Arduino. Arduino is an electronic piece of hardwaree that you can programme and to activate or automate sensors, motors, computer programs and other digital equipment or software. I wanted to experiment with Arduino because I wanted to reach a new way of art that involved interaction. Previously, my work has involved a purely autobiographical approach usually involving my relationship with my father or my childhood. However, my work seems to be more becoming about social interactions.

The subject matter of the work is to do with anxiety. In the past anxiety has had a crippling effect on me especially talking to unknowns. It used to take months to properly talk to someone. Only when I allowed myself to talk in front of classroom did it break down the anxiety that’s topped me from doing things. I wanted as part of my art project to replicate my nervous anxiety onto the participants. The nervousness that I suffered will be replicated when a participant picks up the phone connected to the Arduino, presses the button also connected to the Arduino and are then left unknowingly ringing a random person in the country hence inducing nervousness.
