NGAAM : งาม

NGAAM : งาม

Scultura, Sentimento, 30x30x28cm
NGAAM is an acrylic and paper sculpture, taking the initial form of a book which opens to reveal words of poetry, Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18: ‘Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?’.

The poem is printed on a paper page, interwoven with acrylic leaves which transform into the Thai word (‘Ngaam’, meaning ‘authentic’ and ‘beautiful’), the calligraphic rhythms of the letters echoing the poetic rhythms of Shakespeare’s sonnet, when read or recited.

The book is supported on a rest, allowing the viewer to read the poem as revealed or to pick up and hold the book, by hand, for recital.
