Some years ago I thought that identity was something fixed, like a fingerprint. Over time I started to believe identity was more of an imprint. With disdain I find out that our thoughts and behavior are patterned by experiences from our childhood, our families, our friends, culture, and subculture. Sometimes our behavior is driven by these patterns, without realizing it, as if we are without choice. During my artistic residency with Contextile I made this work - Artificial identity in the Jacquard technique using cotton and linen at the Sampedro factory in Guimaraes, Portugal.
