Funeral
“Funeral” is a series about fictional characters, whose appearance is similar to statues frozen in time. This is the story of an imaginary family, and its members are wearing their fineries as they would take part to a fatal imperial march. Their eyes are deliberately hidden, eclipsing our presence and making them inaccessible. The notion of antagonism is an important point in this work; the opposition between light and darkness, between fantasy and reality, between the beautiful and the bizarre. The color panel is also very significant: the skin of the characters is certainly very light, but not completely white. Life is still present inside their bodies. It is again this desire to play on the confines and the limitations. They are between the living and the inanimate, between humans and statues. And if we look further, between the mortal and the immortal.
The series began in 2011 and it’s a long time project : every year, one or two pictures are added with new characters, based on those already existing but with their own history, their own identity. This series evolves through my inspirations, my photographic technique and my intention to complexify my work.
