At the Lake

"At the Lake" shows two brothers fishing by the lake using thin bamboo fishing rods. Joemarie's watercolor masterpiece mirrors a childhood memory shared by every Filipino born before the advent of smartphones. Before, children used their energy and creativity in pursuit of happiness. They found satisfaction and beauty in small things that would not be noticed in our current age of constant phone pings. Children appreciated leisurely walks down the street just before dawn. Most of all, they knew how to talk sincerely to and love each other. They valued company and family. Remember: A bundle of sticks never bends to a problem no matter how worse it gets.
