Goldencompanion is a performance artist of anonymous identity. Draped under a golden survival sheet, she accompanies random individuals of the public, her surrogate “hosts”.

Goldencompanion is anonymous.
Appearance, race, speech, composure, behavior provide a framework for how a person is to be related to, categorized, or judged. Goldencompanion removes as much signs of her identity as possible without escaping her body and presence. What remains is a 160cm, small-framed, female body draped under a survival sheet. The survival-sheet suggest notions of retreat, protection, hiding, fleeing, rescue, refugee. The artist attempts to hide herself both literally and metaphorically, yet is unavoidably visible in her nakedness and golden cover.
Goldencompanion accompanies.
Without warning, an unsuspecting individual receives a companion. The presence of the goldencompanion triggers various emotions, disruptions, agreements, and disagreements. The host becomes hyperaware of his adaptations to relate to this new partner, enemy, child, playmate, ghost… Meanwhile the golden surface of the sheet metaphorically reflects this image back. The host becomes hyperaware of his very presence in time and space — experiencing an expansion of the self in the present moment.

• Goldencompanion is a research in which I experience the underlying motivations in relating to another being.
• Goldencompanion is a practice to endure submission. The attempt to remove my ego places me in a vulnerable space - a condition I believe is required for selfless encounters.
• Goldencompanion reciprocates. Offering my time, body and self, I invites the host to reflect upon his/her own motivations in relating to another being.
• Goldencompanion resides in the in-between. I strongly believe there is much valuable knowledge to be reaped in terrain of grey, doubts and in-between. As a work of art, goldencompanion is merely an intermediary – a tool to surface the knowledge that lies in-between.
