Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence

Pittura, Astratto informale, Olio, 115x120x3cm
This painting is part of a series of paintings exploring ideas about The Screen and cinema. The physical, photochemical substance of celluloid and the magical, inventive ways in which directors have exploited this medium may soon become extinct after just 120 years.

'Artificial Intelligence' is one of the works from this series exploring aspects of film through painting that (hopefully) holds a mirror, too, to the magic of painting itself. Techniques such as tint and grisaille have been employed to create intense, clean colour that which we might experience watching moving images projected with light. The title also acknowledges Spielberg's film of the same name where the 'boy' David searches for the elusive Blue Fairy. The two blue 'flag' shapes seem neither natural or technological and so seem in a permanent atmosphere of suspension.
