This is a photograph of my parents' hands touching. They are both deaf and at the point of this image my father was diagnosed with glaucoma. In his gradual blindness touch became a vital role in the communication of their language and intimacy.

It was during this period I was using a Yashica T4 camera, this is a compact camera, which is designed for snapshot photography. In my practice as an artist making visual notes, I form relationships with cameras, carrying them around with me everywhere looking for moments through the eye of the lens. I allow the device to be an extension of my eye, exploring the potential moments as I analyse the aesthetic that lays latent in the camera.

It was a sunny day in their garden my camera eye started to notice small gestures, subtle caresses of the hands as my mother guided my father back to the house. I clicked the button and captured this fragment. I processed the film and this image stood out amongst the rest, the lighting, composition and the tenderness of the grasp to me defines their affinity.
