Peeling the fiction

Il campo operatorio è pronto. Un frammento di cute butterata emerge dalla finestra del telo chirurgico, pronta per essere sottoposta a un trattamento di dermo-estetica: il “peeling” rimuove le imperfezioni superficiali, consente un ringiovanimento transitorio. Ma qual è la tua vera pelle? Quella che precede la procedura o quella che la segue? Ciascuna di esse giace al di là della dicotomia tra vero e falso, oltre la sottile differenza tra epidermide animale e scorza vegetale. La verità non appartiene alle cose, ma all’occhio di chi le osserva.

The operatory field is set up. A fragment of pitted skin emerges from the surgery frame, ready to undergo a dermo-aesthetic treatment: the “peeling” removes superficial imperfections, allowing for an apparent rejuvenation. Yet, which one is your true skin? Is it the one before the procedure or the one that will appear after that? Either of them lies above the dichotomy of true and false, above the subtle difference between animal skin and vegetable peel. Truth does not belong to things, but rather to the eye of the beholder.
