Skin in architecture

Skin in architecture

The customization of the skin in architecture, read its surface, has no limit in creativity, material, texture, and technics. There is almost nothing impossible, from 3d printed to green wall, from texturized concrete to inflatable rubber.
Architecture critics complain that nowadays the skin is more important than space complexity, this has a strong connection with architectural photography and how media sell architecture or, in other words, and how people experience the architecture.
The skin becomes the language that architecture uses to tell about itself loosing its most important goal: quality of the space and capability to adapt to its inhabitants use.
The other side of the medal is that investigation on materials has grown a lot in the last decades and architecture offices are involved in developing new technics of production that bring forward with construction companies. It means high level of customization and creativity freedom. In this photos the texture of United Emirates Arabs pavilion that I shot for Foster and Partners Office.
