Submissive Rebel

Many women have been fleeing their western homes and travelling across the world in order to join, support and fight for the extremist militant group, Islamic State. However upon arriving, these young women become nothing but submissive and the glamorisation of Islamic state fades. Some are sold as prostitutes, others are married off, whose purpose becomes to 'breed a new generation of fighters'. The independence and excitement they once sought for disappears into a want for emancipation.

'Submissive Rebel' explores the notion of the rebellion of western women and the contradiction this faces when these women are objectified, dominated by men and forced into a life of submission.
Delving into the taboos of religion, war, gender, freedom and sexualisation, 'Submissive Rebel' looks to challenge hidden truths and perceptions within society.
