Brit Milah (Circumcision)

Male initiation, the circumcision taboos
Genesis 17:1-14, brit milah circumcision is practised on the 8th day regarded as Male initiation. It is written in the covenant that the uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin , his soul will be cut from his people and by failing the carrying out of the ritual the sacred agreement or covenant between God and his people will be broken, the foreskin is written as impure. Accordingly God and the rabbis state circumcision decreases pride and sexual pleasure thus enhancing the spiritual persona..In Jewish mysticism the Zohar (Kabbalah) implies only one who has been circumcised can commune with God. Incongruously during the Exodus from Egypt Jews never practiced circumcision directly opposing Gods covenant. Furthermore the bible preaches it is forbidden to question the works of God .Another taboo even talking about masturbation and circumcision reinforces the prevention of HIV transmission in Africa’s amongst the black population. One has to pose the forbidden question if God created man in his own image why circumcision. Above the taboo polemic I regard my image the phallus in my work signifier microcosmic and macrocosmic space; fertility ,potency, birth genesis, new order over obliteration.
