Menstruation ll (Prelude)

This painting is an abstract representation of menstruation and has been painted using 'wet - on -wet' watercolour. This technique allows wet paint to flow organically across wet paper, emphasising the fluid uncontrollable process of menstruation. This is a tboo subject in many cultures and may not be spoken about at all in public. The menstruating woman may be segregated and isolated in many cultures, and even in western societies may be ostracised or even ridiculed. This kind of social pressure may make young women and girls feel ashamed of their own bodies.
