Memory has a will of its own

My work form a series of in depth reflections on my experience growing up within contemporary Western society. I seek to analyse and come to terms with the human experience within this increasingly globalised and interconnected world. These experiences manifest in my practice are explored through a hybrid of abstract painting and performance art, although I also traverse drawing and collage to create my work.

In Memory has a will of its own, the installation forms a mind map that I have constructed prior to performing. All painterly matter in my work, whether marks on a canvas or the liquid in a paddling pool are experiences that I try to codify. I spend hours drafting ways of codifying experiences in sketchbooks before a performance or painting manifests itself. This performance probes into two conflicting manifestations of the self and the struggle to find harmony between past and present experiences.
