Bioceramics is made using a ‘found’ porcelain Buchner Funnel which is a piece of laboratory equipment used for separating solids and liquids. Human hair has been painstakingly implanted into the holes of the funnel using wax as a follicular unit to bundle and secure the hair. Hair was often used to make jewellery in memory of a deceased loved one during the 19th and early 20th Centuries. However in this instance the implanting of hair, which carries the DNA of a human, into an inanimate object has an unnerving result.
