The Portrait Series

These photographs and self-portraits employ the elongated and elegant poses of history painting in order to link sexuality, aging, and the history of portrait art. The images may be recognizable as displaying familial intimacy but they also engage overt sexual undercurrents. The photographs were made in order to understand the complication of sexual desire and familial intimacy in a historical context. I meet, spend time with, photograph, and enjoy the company of older men in the hopes of elucidating the unique characteristics of photographic representations of sexuality and intimacy.
