'Rising Universe (No. 22)'
In this series 'Rising Universe' the artist searched for a visual representation of the emergence of our universe. In order to create these images the artist used a method that is actually very similar to the methods 'nature' used to create our universe. These paintings are in some ways Über-realistic, not because the visual representation is realistic (because we cannot now how it looked like a few billions of years ago), but because the method used to paint these images is as close as a painting can get to the method nature used in reality to create these structures in our universe. The electromagnetic force is one of the four fundamental laws of nature, and probably the most flexible (in a creative way) and manipulatable law of the four. This force is partly responsible for our universe as we know it today! (The tree other fundamental laws are also used to create this image but in a less extensive way)
The size of the images in this series are very small. This is in conflict with the size of our Universe but also with the 'big scale culture' that we experience today. Our century is a century where nothing can be to big and it is exactly that attitude that the artist wants to put in question. Do we still have the guts and decency to enjoy the small as well? At the same time these images do not only represent the macroscopic level of our universe. There is also place to let your mind dwell in the microscopic level of our universe, in some ways these images also represent the electromagnetic interactions between different atoms, synapses in the brain, ... .
Enjoy!
