Mother and child

Mother and child

In the current Western society I live in, people tend to forget about using instincts. Primary needs are self-evident, and other miscellaneous distractions cross paths. Priorities shift and grass is always greener on the other side. There seems to be no real awareness of the positive side of what you do have, and what you can (and should) preserve.
This painting is about a mothers' instinct of protecting her child, facing all fear and forgetting about her own vulnerability. With a posture that is almost animal-like, she knows only one thing, and that is that her offspring should be safe at all cost. Even though she seems fragile with her bent back and long arms, she's so strong that she is able to use her fear to impress and to scare whatever is facing her away.

In this artwork there is no placing in time and location. The neutral grey background makes that this could be anywhere anytime. It is a mother sharing an emotion experienced by all human beings and animals, conscious or subconscious.
