For my next jewelry I will need a story...

“ For my next Jewelery I will need a story” - was my

independent project in the last semester of my third year in the jewelery department in Bezalel academy.

The title of the project is a paraphrase on the book “ For my next illusion I will use wings” which was written by Alex Epstein, a young Israeli writer in 2012.

. Alex refer to his stories as “ miniature” stories, sometimes only a few words long

or a page at most.he has the ability to distill a very deep and complicated ideas into a few short

words.
I have been following his writings for a period of more than 10 years or so, and felt right from

the very beginning that all the stories had strong visual aspect, and that they were somewhat almost

"asking” to be materialized...to take up a tactile form...it took me 10 years since I have read the first

short stories to come up with the Project
My project is a visual tribute, through the medium of

jewelery to the book. The project seek to create a sort of “illustration” in jewelery to the stories and try

to create the tiny worlds being formed in the stories in a three dimensional way. This create an

intimate connection between words and jewelery. Most of the stories in the book are no longer than a

few sentences long, a paragraph at the most, they can be easily remember by heart. One can, in fact

"carry” them with him wherever he goes, from one place to the other, just like a piece of jewelery is a

kind of art creation one can carry on his body. The main inspiration for that project is the written word,

the text, the book both as a spiritual idea and as a material, hence the extensive use of book pages

in the project as a material..The project in total consist of seventeen different works, of which I present

here eight pieces. Each piece is refering to a different story .for some of the stories I made more than

one piece, so a small series in actually refering to a specific single story. Each of the pieces was

hand made using a very wide array of methods and techniques, from traditional silversmithing
to embroidery, enamel, paper constructing, electroforming and many more.

Each material or technique were chosen according to the individual nature of the specific

story, it's characteristics and the visual images it aroused in my imagination.

The intimacy between me and my work, and the stories were highly important for me,

I wanted each of the pieces to carry my finger print and to go through as least “mediators”

as possible... A fact that made the project a very slow one...it took a very intense three months...

and was very mind and spirit consuming..I lived inside the fantastic worlds created in the stories

in those three months...so it was a very unique time for me, surreal and dreamy.
