The Vertical Of Power
„The Vertical Of Power“ is a pneumatic sound sculpture dealing with hidden or obvious [ab]use of power within a wide variety of structures and systems. In these days this topic inevitably connects to the actual repression of the opposition in Iran.
The sound sculpture works solely in an intermodal way.
A loudspeaker hangs above a luminescent steal/plexiglas tank, which is filled with 560 l of coloured fluid. By approaching, the visitor activates the sound sculpture. Firstly the sounds of charging a weapon and a shot can be heard from the speaker above. About 20msec later the fluid below will be pushed down fast, rears up as a wave, forms a circle, a fountain, finally resolves into single drops. Only through synaesthetic perceptions a downward motion of the shot, hitting the surface, can be associated by the active recipient. Once triggered, „The Vertical Of Power“ will repeat according to the official number of killed people while the demonstrations in Teheran since 15th of June 2009 [used statistic:Human Rights Watch/www.hrw.org].
The technology involved [pneumatic piston/carbon dioxid gascan/camera/light/audio&MIDI-controlling MAX/MSP/Jitter-patch] stays invisible.
