Benedictine

This painting was part of a body of work that was inspired by the monks at Quarr Abbey on the Isle of Wight. Amongst the work were a number of small portraits using only grey. This was an attempt to portray the silence, contemplation and act of prayer at the Abbey. I have often thought of the act of painting as an act of prayer. I wanted the paintings to be barely audible, to show what can be present through absence.
