The power of Power (containing its own fall)
This work shows a character and strength which are typical of monumental sculpture, even if it features reduced dimensions. On a thin but compact pedestal, an architecture of great parallepipeds seems to rise and collapse, thus creating both the whole and the detail of a dilapidated building. In its left part, a human figure is seated; it is worn out by the splendor and the opulence of its own power. The hand is well secure on the throne, the face is grounding its teeth and aspiring towards a higher power. On the right side, from a lower structural level, another figure is coming out of a shadowy opening: it has human features but it clearly belongs to another nature, another social class.
The development of the group is mainly horizontal but it opens up to a powerful vertical expansion on the left side, starting from the blocks of the base that are severely geometrical and climbing up as far as the torn face of the gold-covered and seated figure. Different techniques, geometry and anatomy, clefts and holes permeate this work made by the artist in the last few months. The figures are made of glaze terracotta and coloured concrete similar to Varignana sandtone.
