Support 4: 'Clonmacnoise with High Cross'

Pittura, Sacro / Mitologico, Tecnica mista, 66x66x3cm
Clonmacnoise, on the Shannon, was the first great monastery founded in Ireland in 548 AD by Ciaran ‘Son of the Carpenter’.

From here, the good news brought to Ireland by St. Patrick was proclaimed and spread by the monks, throughout North West and Continental Europe.

The High Cross: - the Cross of the Scriptures or Flanns Cross, is 9th Century and is 10ft; or 3 meters high. Today, in the ruins, there are 400 burial graves which I have tried to interpret through the medium of thread.

It took 7 weeks to complete the High Cross in silk thread.

I am pleased with my interpretation of the figures, together with the dominant circle surrounding the focal point of the cross: from the arms protruding upwards, thus, offsetting the horizontal and vertical elements in the design, over which, the figure of Christ dominates the whole composition.
