Corrupted Women
Today, in the digital era , there's no physical hardware on which it sustains. Images can be printed, displayed in different devices or stored as files in many different ways where the image remains unchanged.
Digital image offers a new range of possibilities since it does not have a conventional support but a code that it is interpreted by a machine to be shown.
Corrupted is a metaphor for how reason alters vision. A metaphor of visual perception.
Sometimes, when a file is wrongly copied, when you have problems saving it, or when the hardware gets broken "corrupt" files show up. Files that many times can not be interpreted or have alterations that normally make us consider them invalid and discard them.
Using this idea, I insert in the image code words or phrases related to it that relate to my own experience and my relationship with what it represents. The insertion causes changes in the image, generating a "corrupt file". Although it is a controlled process, the results are random and make the image something unique, hard to be repeated. The words, as an element of reason, corrupt the image in order to show how it can be altered.
Cecilia M. Alonso "Visual perception is the interpretation of visual discrimination or external stimuli associated with the prior knowledge and the emotional state of the individual"
"Corrupted Women" is an autobiographical series where words are inserted as a reminder of the person who is photographed.
