4 YEARS LATER

This series of portraits depict people who have become heroine addicts, and documents them during their time on the streets of Oslo with two shots taken years apart.
Both because of the circumstances in which I encountered the people in this series, and because I wanted them to be at their ease and not trapped within the studio, I shot the portraits in the street where I encountered each subject. However, at the same time it was important to keep the images free of background noise and external references. I wanted to allow the individual to be the main focus of the portrait, rather than to frame them within context that they are usually associated with. As such I carried fleece blankets with me, which I tacked up and used as a backdrop for the portraits.
Each image portrays a heroin addict in Oslo, both in 2009 and 2013 as outlined in my series description.
