The image has been partially inspired by the Japanese purikura: an advanced photo booth that adds ’stickers’ to the user’s photo. These booths are popular throughout S E Asia and they are usually used to increase the cute appeal of the sitter. These stickers can be sparkles, bows, crowns, bunny ears etc. Through digital manipulation we present an ‘abject purikura’ whereby the young male is presented with visible signs of abjection adorning his form. The title of the piece is borrowed from the title of the novel of the same name by the Welsh author Dylan Thomas.
