Ka-Bo

Ka-Bo, which means “footstep” in Taiwanese, is my second series of artworks in “Alternative Rendering” science art project. The idea of “Alternative Rendering” is to take data from science research, analyze and interpret it in the prospective of art. It’s a whole new idea either for art or science discipline.
In Ka-Bo, each image contains over 200 microscopy imaging data of cell movement experiment from four different cells. When the cell moves one step, there will be a data point which stands for its position. I normalized them into [0 1] and applied the position coordinates as color indicators, which mean three data points can be utilized as RGB palette. Also, the diameter of dots derived from the original position coordinates at each point. Finally, I displayed them randomly by x-axis (horizontal) and time-lapsed by y-axis (vertical). Through these two images, people can realize how beautiful life is and be aware of those artists living in Mother Nature. I strived to be a translator between nature and people. That’s how this piece of artwork is meaningful in contemporary art, science, and education.
