Ephemeral flight

Ephemeral flight

Scultura, Fantasia / Visionario, Politico/Sociale, Metallo, 360x210x240cm
Flight is but an ephemeral escape from the ceaseless custody of earth. It intrigues me to seek a new bearing, to think of earth and myself in a new sense - thus conjuring a world where reason and fantasy function as one. An alter ego named Zorcutt represents my work. He is a modern day “Don Quixote of Aviation”. His madness is one of idealism, optimism, faith, and the belief that he can rise up out of the dumpster; creating flying machines that will take him to new lands and opportunities. He affirms, “If a squirrel can fly, so can I!” His machines are shaped from society’s waste. They speak of his uncomfortable relationship between art, industry, politics, and commerce. His drive compels the viewer by reorienting their perspective, and makes them consider how an encounter with the unexpected can dramatically alter understanding.
Ephemeral Flight is three oversized rifle shells will propel the pilot and the glider into the air. The Gilder wings are attached to the bullets with make up the fuselage of the flying machine. When the three firing pins on the back of the machine are released: the bullets, wings and pilot will leap into the air as fast as a speeding bullet
