My Animal Dance

MY ANIMAL PRINT:
Music, drawing and dancing.
MY ANIMAL PRINT, an installation within MY ANIMAL DANCE PROJECT.
A multidisciplinary project exploring music - dance - and drawing. Drawing is expanded of its traditional form, and serves as an element of artistic link between different disciplines in the same social ritual.
My references of other artists in the field of dance and expanded drawing are, for example, Trisha Brown and Tino Sehgal. Both are good examples of a pioneer search of new spaces and time, as well as breaking down the barriers between these two disciplines.
Expanded drawing allows me to document the extration of our more visceral or animal 'essence' and register it as a continuous, performed experience.
For this project, collaboration, participation and networking are the most important bases.
Process:
Ten well known musicians within the contemporary Spanish music scene were contacted. Some intructions were given to them: to find a musical theme which make you feel alienated from yourself and connects you with your animal side when you hear its first chords.
Caçacervols musician, collaborator and creator of all sound pieces in my projects, composed one unique song from the sent items. He decomposes the collected musical themes and added his own music material, within the parameters of irrationality and evasion.
A contemporary dancer improvised movements from the resulting sound piece made. Dancers are creators of a visceral and nonverbal art in contact with music or sound.
The dancer’s feet are soaked with black pigment, which will followed the action and all her trajectory in a white felt canvas placed on the floor. The canvas had a painted black circle, limiting the action of the performer. The lines that were drawn out of that circle by the dancer's feet represent markers of irrationality within the process, and the variables that the moving subject has failed to control while in contact with music.
In order to have an ephemeral process, these movements are recorded on video.
Follows an extrapolation of these movements on paper, and the creation of a mapping study and cartography of these animalistic movements and dance.
Alienation, time and drawings in an synaesthetic exercise.
