The Speech

The Speech is a video concerned with language and speech. It tries to capture the need and struggle for expression. It also attempts to articulate how meaning of what is said is created not only by the speaker but also by the audience/viewer in their reading and interpretation. We formulate ideas by doing, by speaking to each other. A woman dressed in a suite looks into the camera. The video frame shows her as a portrait. Slowly one by one 3-dimensional letters come out of her mouth. The letters glide over her lips and saliva drips down her chin. The letters do not form words, together they are nonsense. The camera cuts to a close up of her mouth and the speed of the video is now fast as the letters and saliva keep coming out of her mouth. The camera cuts between the close up of the mouth and of the portrait framing.
