Work is "inspired" by the absurd idea of /remote-controlled surgery/, or telesurgery (an actual, but rare practice). To me, this corresponds nicely with many modern forms of communication that are cold and distant and often present themselves as a barrier rather than permit meaningful exchange. In telesurgery, like remote-guided warfare, your hands do not get dirty and you do not have to leave the office. You can text message that the patient, unfortunately, has not survived.
