Pittura, Astratto informale, Olio, 150x150cm
The thematic of “mapping the human skin” determines my recent work and approaches it in different ages and in relevance with the environmental space. I am interested in the slow build-up of the surface through multiple layers and I pay close attention to gradations in tone and texture. These gradations create the sense of volume and strengthen the abstractive element. My decision to occupy with the specific topics comes from a deeper necessity to map human hypostasis. The human skin in my artwork contradicts to the “porcelain skin” that we see on the magazine covers. I am trying to force the viewer into a deeper examination of one’s appearance of the human skin and the beauties inherent within. Through the materiality of my painting, I am interested in depicting the perfection and imperfections of the human skin as a realistic view of the body which many women grown ashamed of. My images are an illusion that stems from contemporary society’s standard of the “ideal beauty”. If you paint a scar on the ‘complexion’ of your canvas, it can be beautiful. It becomes a part of its identity.
