This painting of my grandparents in Abruzzo was adopted from a photo taken circa 1965. I have always been in love with its rustic narrative; it serves as an excellent subject for artwork. The scene includes an old earth house and another with an outdoor staircase, along with the basket weaver and seamstress. The painting was executed in an indirect style, using a detailed monochrome underpainting followed by multiple glazing layers, in which various colors are layered over one another, but never mixed together directly.
