Claridade/ Liquid images
What is the meaning of vision now, when image has nearly no limits? What is image now, when the sense of sight intersects lines between perceived reality and reliable experience?
After these thought-provoking ideas, I started the project Claridade in New York, a very visual place, using performance side by side with photography without the sense of sight. The project aims to contrast the social, anthropological and emotional tensions between us in society, as well as to wonder about aesthetics rules in photography missing the most judgmental of the senses.
According to these principles, photographic pieces may content a performatic process themselves flowing into a non-just-two-dimensions form. Liquid images came on my mind while I was working on the images of Claridade and, accidentally, liquid paraffin was spilled on newspaper. The ink was partially transferred to the surface of the paraffin when hardened. This fact overcame my unconsciousness when I started to think about the possibilities of transferring to image the expressive properties of paraffin.
As black mirrors, arbitrary shapes are created by dropping paraffin on image. Modelling the shapes with a heat gun, images are slowly expanding or contracting, destroying themselves and creating new ones on a performatic and irreversible way.
