Uroboros is an ancient symbol, depicted traditionally as
a snake, devouring its own tail. It represents the cyclic essence
of matter, the never ending return from end to beginning, selfdestruction
and self-revival, the eternal circle of creation and
perishing of life, pro-creation and death.
The depicted creatures are known for their practice of coincidental
acts of procreation and death: the praying mantis bites off its partner’s
head during or after copulation; the black widow spider kills
its partner after finishing the act; the scarabeus beetle lays eggs
into decaying bodies of other animals, including its own species.
The lines of the animals in question are composed from the names
of cities and villages, where they can be found. Their depiction is
a reference to humans and their dwelling, which are inevitably
affected by the cycle of life and death and they are also places of extreme poverty.
