what ever you staple / was ihr tackert
Theses self-managed drafting rooms have maintained der independency of the university since 1956 when a group of young architectural students (Raimund Abraham, Friedrich St. Florian, Eugen Gross etc.) build up their interactive studio within the old university building. Due to privatization of the university as a former public space, the students, engaged in these architectural drafting rooms, tried to point to this fact with an exhibition space around the hallways of the University, called the BANALE x.
The BANALE was an exhibition concept by the architectural drafting rooms created in the middle of the 90s. The students at that time wanted to build up a platform, apart from the strictly ruled daily life in the architectural school of Graz, for other students and young architects to present their work and projects to the public that never would have been approved by the professors.
Continuing in this manner as a part of the Austrian architectural days in 2010, the BANALE x build up a platform for everyone to bring anything they concede worth showing to the public.
The project WHAT EVER YOU STAPLE is a social interactive sculpture which roots within the exhibition space but invites everyone to participate on growing the sculpture into the halls of the university. Starting the sculpture by stapling one protecting mask to the other, the sculpture remains open due to the 6 days of the exhibition to be continued by stapling more protecting masks or other available material able to be stapled onto the sculpture.
The sculpture should be part of the BANALE exhibition, but should grow into being a part of the university building. To become that, not only me, but other people should become as well part of the sculpture by creating and feeding it.
