Threshold of Nothingness

"01 Threshold of Nothingness" is part of an ongoing series of moving image meditations on time, existence and memory. It was inspired by a personal memory of wandering through transportation hubs in New York City, during the aftermath of my brother's death 10 years ago. These environments carried a transience and elusiveness, of time and everyday life, which seemed to resonate with my own feelings of existential displacement. Layers of consciousness explored through image, sound, space and time - echo the layers through which we filter our individual realities. This unique yet collective process mirrors my interest in how reality is constructed through personal illusions of perception; how the present is like water, slipping through our fingers, how quantum studies brings us closer now than ever before, to the acknowledgement of parallel realities, and the belief that time's linearity is nothing more than a human construct. In Buddhist philosophy the journey of life is seen as an endless circle of time, cause and effect, decay and renewal. My work regards the journey as a metaphor for the human condition, reflecting its dualities, and treading between physical and conscious reality.
