memory

The visual word and the spoken word have taken a step closer to each other.

“Memory” is an experimental animation that explores the potential of digital media and language. Unlike printed media, the screen is a dynamic environment. This environment should not be restricted to the same visual communication principles as it’s static predecessors. I’ve designed this typeface to behave more like the spoken word; capturing it’s audience because of text’s ephemeral quality. The emotive quality of the animation transforms ‘reading’ language into ‘visual’ language, understandable on aesthetic and conceptual levels. In some ways, the form emphasizes the content greater than the printed page could ever dream. Language has returned to the performative nature it began with. Again, the visual word and the spoken word have taken a step closer to each other. The words we speak become memories in the minds that listen - the printed word is permanent. Does the importance of what we say weaken as the urgency to understand a text diminishes? The content of poem speaks to the role our memories play while experiencing information and conversation.
