Zimbabwe has recently undergone an economic collapse of an unprecedented scale. The unemployment rate skyrocketed to over 80%, leading to a mass exodus of Zimbabwean migrant workers to neighboring countries and abroad. The larger number of this population now resides in South Africa; which in 2008 experience an outbreak of xenophobic violence. In an effort to engage this violence and re-imagine the perceptions of economic migrant workers I use decommissioned Zimbabwean dollars as an aesthetic material, which I use metaphorically and symbolically as sculptural elements in various performances. This imagery serves as documentation of these performances that are designed around popular occupations adopted by these economic migrant workers.
