Mostre, Austria, Vienna, 23 October 2017
Under the title "AUFBREZELT IS", photographs of Elisabeth Rass and paintings and objects by Herwig Maria Stark are presented in Ausstellungsraum, Gumpendorfer Strasse 23, 1060 Vienna.
For the first time, Elisabeth Rass, photo artist from Vienna and Herwig Maria Stark, artist and designer from Salzburg have come together to realize an exhibition project with the topic of "AUFBREZELT IS". The exhibition title inspires to think of beer given bliss and October mood, but the two artists invite to a "ride on the countryside".
On holidays or special events one gets “aufgebrezelt" (primped) and shows who he is and what he owns, therefore the two artists in this exhibition create an image of the country from a historical, traditional, religious, social and dreamy view.

The phrase "we drive to the countryside" fascinated Elisabeth Rass in her childhood, whereas the "land“embraced only the surrounding area of the city. The real "land" was discovered later by her with a transfigured idea and great interest through the camera. The reality and the tribulation of the everyday farming of land and ground are excluded. She invites to an imaginary journey to the land which does not exist this way.
In the "land" of Herwig Maria Stark, historical events meet tradition and Christian values. Seducing and at the same time misleading are the women or men figures, which are brought to life with charcoal and acrylics by Herwig Maria on coarse linen. Symbolic are the objects of bone, alienated and primped (aufgebrezelt). Their sensuality, sexual presence and powerful appearance, deceive over political, economic and socio-political tragedies.
ELISABETH RASS was born in Vienna. The father aroused interest in photography and art. Later, some other interests were added. The strengths developed in the course of life. All together formed a "seething mixture" – rough in the youth. Dealing with oneself must be learned – daily.
In her photographs, it is striking that not the human as a person alone arouses her interest, but rather what human has created. Landscapes occur; cities provide insights into human life, snapshots ripped out of time swinging in other dimensions.
Since 2010 she follows an international exhibition activity. She is the founder of the Biennale Austria Association and an active member of the Concilio Europeo dell'Arte and the Unione Cattolica Artisti Italiani. Her works are present in public collections in Italy, the USA and Austria.
HERWIG MARIA STARK, born in Salzburg, began his studies as a designer in Vienna and went hereafter to Italy to continue his studies at Accademia di Moda in Florence. After several successful years as a fashion and costume designer and an Austrian state award he devoted himself to the study of painting. He studied with Irina Nakhova and with Angel Ramiro Sanchez/ Florence Academy of Art the technique of the Old Italian masters. His insights coupled with experiences in foreign cultural circles, enriched and expanded his vision of art, which characterize his personal and unique style.
In his expressionist paintings he explores the inner life of man. The intensity of expression, communication and psychological introspection of inner discomfort is manifested by its numerous portraits. He portrays a world of illusions, restless souls, strong, fragile, desperate and alone. With great empathy, wisdom and skill of an artist and undisputed talent, the inner life of mankind is manifested.
His works have been multiply and internationally awarded and are present in public collections in Italy, the USA, the Netherlands, Austria and private collections in the USA and Austria. He is an active member of the Concilio Europeo dell'Arte, Unione Cattolica Artisti Italiani and the Association Biennale Austria.
